For those of you who have not spent much time in Chicago (and those who have, already know), it truly is a fantastic city. Both the city and the North Shore offer much shopping, entertainment, sporting events, sightseeing, museums, and more. If you are planning to travel for our wedding, you may find it an opportunity to make a vacation out of your trip.

Within Walking Distance of the Doubletree Hotel -

Old Orchard Shopping Center - There's a Bloomingdale's, Lord & Taylor's, Marshall Field's, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, J.Jill, J.Crew, Nine West, Cheesecake Factory and many more stores and restaurants.

Cineplex Odeon Garden Cinemas - This is part of the Old Orchard Shopping Center and it has seven movie theaters. Click on the link for current movies and show times

North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - This venue is right next door to the hotel and houses two individual theaters under one roof - the 848 seat Centre East Theatre and the 342 seat Northlight Theatre. Click on the link for its web site which includes a calendar of events.

In the Area -

The Chicago Botanic Garden - 300-acre living museum which includes a Japanese Garden and greenhouses with tropical plants from around the world.

Bahai Temple - A half-mile walk from our reception at Michigan Shores Country Club, this temple is known as the "Mother Temple of the West", since it was the first House of Worship constructed in the Western Hemisphere. It has nine sides and a dome and is surrounded by gardens and fountains. If you fly into O'Hare across Lake Michigan you can see it north of the city on the lakefront. Without trivializing its beauty, it looks like a large orange juice squeezer from the sky!

GOLF!!!!!!!!! -

If you will be in sometime on Friday or Saturday and want to play golf, you can call Wilmette Golf Course 6 days in advance of your desired tee time. The number of the pro shop is (847)256-9646. There are also 158 other golf courses within 25 miles of the Wilmette Golf Course. Click on this link for those that are closest to the hotel.

Cog Hill, one of the top 100 public courses in the USA, and home of the Western Open (which will be played there the week before the wedding), is also an option for golf. It is about an hour away (give or take, depending on traffic since it is Southeast of the city) in Lemont, IL. You can call (630) 257-5872 to reserve tee times (their earliest tee time is 5.40AM!) with a credit card and a complete foursome. I believe the costs for eighteen holes on Dubsdread (Course #4) is $120.00. There are also three other courses available to play at Cog Hill.

Hometeam Sports and Events -

Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox - The Cubbies play at the historic Wrigley Park, baseball's second oldest ballpark. Ironically enough, they play at home versus their cross-town American League counterparts, the White Sox between Thursday and Saturday for a three-game series (all day games). It is the first series after the all-star game to kick off the second half of the baseball season.

PGA Greater Milwaukee Open - The week of July 9th to 15th, 2001, the PGA tour heads to Milwaukee to play this tournament at Brown Deer Park Golf Course. Milwaukee is a short 90 minute drive north of Chicago and is very accessible by Interstate 94.
